In the midst of Norway’s metal scene is Lillith, whose sound is very different from the local scene. They are so dedicated that they sold their house & car to complete their debut album!
1. For people who have never heard your music, explain your sound in 5 words:
Dramatic, soulful, passionate, dark-clad, rock
2. How long has the band been together?
The band came together for the first time in 2002, but has been through some exploitation of the band members. In the past two years, however, the band gained a solid core and recorded their debut album in 2009.
3. How did you come to play the style of music you play?
The band members are collected from different musical environments, therefore Lillith is inspired from several music genres, such as 70s rock, metal and alternative country. So to speak the music has taken its own path and has found Lillith’s very own style, something in between everything.
4. What influences the lyrics you write?
Old pictures, unpredictable emotions and the life outside my window
5. What can people expect from your live show?
A Lillith show gives the audience first and foremost an experience of a very diverse show, with lots of energy and also down tempo songs. We promise a unique show with a vocalist who captivates the audience with her voice, lyrics and suggestive dancing. Lillith is dramatic in its expression and has a distinctive music to offer the audience.
6. What do you want people to know about your band?
Lillith is a quartet, with music that can be described as a black clad rock inspired from 70′s colorful scenes. A combination of these four musicians create a band with a distinctive sound. The female vocalist Camilla Hell stands out with her rusty and soar voice, accompanied by a soulful band. The band members are collected from different musical environments, therefore Lillith is inspired from several music genres, such as 70s rock, metal and alternative country.
Lillith is a hard working band and has sold the bandmembers house and car in order to complete their debut album “Once I Was Alive”.
7. What would you say is your biggest achievement/accomplishment as an artist/band?
First and foremost is the release of the debut album, which we have been given the opportunity to work with talented
people, such as the award-winning sound engineer Peter Lundell.
8. Have you worked with anyone notable on your releases?
The award-winning sound engineer Peter Lundell.
9. What do you like more – playing festivals or individual shows?
Festivals is great. It’s a place where many musicians can meet and where the public can get many different musical experiences. As a musician it’s intense and requires a great show to get the attention of the audience.
10. What are the best and worst things about your local music scene?
The best thing about our local music scene is the enthusiasts who work hard to promote the local music scene and try to bring out talents in their local area. The worst thing is perhaps that it is not so much varied music on the local scene, it usually runs in the metal.
11. If you could open for any artist, who would it be?
Tom Waits
12. If you could perform anywhere in the world, where would it be?
It would have been awesome performing in an old concert hall with an orchestra in Vienna. But of course; – as musicians we want to travel as much as we can around the world, in Europe and i the U.S.A.
13. What are your future plans for the band?
We hope to play lots of gigs to promote our new album and are already underway creating new
songs for next album.
14. Any advice for indie bands just starting out?
Trust yourself and do not give up, even though it may feel like a lonely thing to do music sometimes.
