We interview singer-songwriter Lisa Hake.

1. For people who have never heard your music, explain your sound in 5 words:
A female Neil Young

2. How long has the band been together?  Or if you’re a solo artist, how long have you been performing for?
Performing since 2006.

3. How did you come to play the style of music you play?
Studied with some fingerstyle guitar greats: Alex DeGrassi, Peppino D’Agostino, John Renbourn. Lived in bluegrass Appalachia, psychedelic California, and now Indie Ireland.

4. What influences the lyrics you write?
Stories-personal, ghost, myth, legend

5. What can people expect from your live show?
Stories about the story songs. A psychotropic, hypnotic experience without the mushrooms.

6. What do you want people to know about your band?
Almost every song is in a different guitar tuning.

7. What would you say is your biggest achievement/accomplishment as an artist/band?
2 albums that I am proud of and a 3rd on its way. Also, the comment that “I sense a rare atmosphere, not typically Irish,
certainly not American-rather something from another time, or from one’s own world, the world of Lisa Hake. Stay tuned listeners, because Lisa Hake will undoubtedly give us more musical surprises.”–Rein van den berg (Alternative Country)
I also liked it this year when I released my new album that Eamon Carr (Horslips) from the Evening Herald called Wind Under Wood “an impressive album which has proved to be one of the year’s most notable.”

8. Have you worked with anyone notable on your releases?
Liam Bradley (Van Morrison, Ronan Keating, & “practically every Irish artist” says his website) on drums. Conor Brady (The Corrs, The Commitments) on guitar. James Blennerhassett (Mary Black, Brian Kennedy) on bass. Alvin Sweeney (U2) producing and backing vocals. Dave Hingerty (Chris Martin, The Frames, Josh Ritter, Louis Stewart, Mary Coughlin, The Corrs, Luka Bloom, Gráda, Nina Hynes, Ann Scott, Mark Geary and Steve Reynolds) on drums.

9. What do you like more – playing festivals or individual shows?
Individual shows

10. What are the best and worst things about your local music scene?
Best and worst is that it’s small.

11. If you could open for any artist, who would it be?
Dave Matthews or Sarah McLachan

12. If you could perform anywhere in the world, where would it be?
Carnegie Hall or Glastonbury

13. What are your future plans for the band?
Working with producer John Ravenhall (June Tabor) on third album.

14. Any advice for indie bands just starting out?
Don’t lose sight of the music.
